May 5 Eastside Art Openings+
The last show at White Box, which also had a dedicated video space is tonight. The UO used the space to colonize Portland and dominate the indigenous PSU.
Academic galleries are unique - they don't have a commercial aim, and they have a budget. In that category, Reed & PNCA still bring out of town artists. PSU, Marylhurst, OCAC and PCC Sylvania have good curatorial programs. This one had some good shows including contemporary Chinese artists. So sad to see White Box go.
Chris Moss has been curating White Box. He received his BFA from PNCA. He curated a series of shows, the Donut Shop in Portland, including a show consuming a house off gentrifying Alberta Street which included a rocket. He later gained an MFA from NYU.
Functionally United, opens tonight and is highly recommended. April 30 Post-structuralist Reading Party
Philosophy and metaphysics, as we know it on the Left Coast, seemed to spring forth simultaneously in Greece, Nepal and China about 2500 years ago. The English had a running start about 800 years ago, the Germans had an impact in the 19th century. But it is the French who have dominated the 20th. Six is eleven.
Six is the annual performance of 6 six-channel musical performances at 7PM for about 3 hours. It is in its eleventh year. While the audience chills on cushions and blankets on the floor or walks about, the musicians construct their performance over six surrounding speakers in six channels.
This year is Cat Ross, Marbletop Orchestra, Strategy, Felisha Ledesma, Rebecca Gates+Marcus Fischer and Choir.
Bring pillows and blankets. It's perfectly fine to zone out, just don't snore.

Photolucida happens every two years in Portland. It is a 'photography festival' wherein photographers may have their work critiqued by gallerists and experienced photographers, gallerists may find photographers, photographers are selected for recognition, and everyone makes love not war. The Seattle Butoh Festival performances are this weekend with a theme this year of body as politics, hidden histories revealed, the feminine in its multitude of guises, personal primordial journeys and journeys of acceptance, synthesis and unity. That pretty much covers everything, right?
