June 10 Public Chemistry Home Cover+

Photographer, collage artist and curator Serrah Russell, from Seattle has a one night pop-up Take / Cover tonight. This show, themed on safety and addressing fear, is an installation incorporating photography, sculpture and video. Her work themes inner emotion suggested my the juxtaposition of minimal collage elements or figures in the natural landscape. This show includes collaboration with CL Young and Samson Stilwell.

Helen Lessick makes installations themed on home, as in the gabled architype. Some has been interior work, like a home about to be torn down filled with glass furniture and objects. Art From the WPA Era is a show of paintings and prints made in the 1930s. The country was in the Great Depression. The government hired musicians, writers, performers and visual artists through the Work Projects Administration in Federal Project Number One, and the show has some of the visual results. There is a longer description worth reading on the PMOMA website. Matt Emmonds will perform on steel drums at the opening.

Linus Pauling went to Washington High School. From there he went to Oregon State University and CalTech. He is the only person to have won two solo Nobels.

Artists Chris Haberman, Karen Wippich, Amy McLain and Eric Blackburn have made artworks themed on Pauling's life and work incorporated into the architecture of the Washington High School Marthas Cafe.

They are unveiled tonight.
