October 11 - 12 Monument Art and Culture
Monuments are slow culture. Outdoors the changing weather takes its toll on their gravity. Media is fast culture. Values can change quickly. Fast culture can war on slow culture. That resulted in taking down some monuments, new ones appearing, and a discussion of what we want for monuments. https://www.portland.gov/arts/monuments/whats-happening-citys-monuments
This 2 day ticketed and free symposium organized by Converge 45 and hosted by PCC Cascade is part of that process.
You can read about the program on the ticketing page: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/portland-monuments-project-symposium-tickets-923012805147 Sales end soon. The free steaming links are in the Eventbrite.

October 7 Ancient Oak
There is a famous story about oak beams as told by Gregory Bateson, onetime married to Margart Mead https://longnow.org/ideas/humans-and-trees-in-long-term-partnership/. And Portland has many famous stories about the Oak Street Lofts.
The Portland Oak Street Lofts were a creative incubator. Maybe still. It was a cheap place to live and work creative people love. The Urban Honking crowd had some. It was under inspection by the City because it was not allowed to live. One of the City inspectors was called out for stalking a resident. After that, the Lofts recieved advance notice on inspections to roll up the futons.
Artists Carson Ellis, Midori Hirose, and May Burruell were there in the moment. Same time as the Alphabet Dress show. Tonight they reminesce.

October 5 Northside Art Openings+
Albina is one of Portland's oldest neighborhoods and was an independent city at one time. It's been thoroughly destroyed by highways, railroads and access to the river blocked by large industrial facilities and ruins. It's polluted too. There are a few old buildings in the neighborhood for a sense of what was: the old Widmer building, Beam and Anchor, some buildings on Russell, the old Ripe Family Dinner building, and some are artist work spaces. The North Coast Seed Building is one, a complex of artist studios in Albina. They are rarely open to the public; the artists bring their work to the Marine Art Works events.
Today some of the artists in the building show their work. Salon D' Autonme at the North Coast Seed Building 2127 N. Albina 1PM-8 Free
