February 7 Portrait Love Net

Tonight brings some outstanding art choices!

Stumptown Coffee Roasters presents their second fellowship award artist, Jennifer Brommer. Her color photographic portraits capture ordinary individuals in a dramatic way. We, each one, are special; Brommer lenses that.

This show is from her Memphis series.

It captures a generation of social grace, wealth and studied appearance. It is that generation's way to project identity entwining Southern culture with the East Coast Gilded Age. The photographer processed the contrast of growing up in the New York City surviving artist world, with her grandparents' experience. The artist discusses the project here: https://www.stumptowncoffee.com/blog/stumptown-artist-fellowship-jennifer-brommer.

Her work reminds Holly Andres and the Yale school along with local portraits of a different tribe by Ann Ploeger. Brommer is one of the many SFAI-schooled artists who have made an impact on Portland art over the last few years. At Stumptown www.stumptowncoffee.com 128 SW 3rd 5PM-7 Free

British artists Jon Thomson and Alison Craighead investigate the intersection of flesh and blood people with the Internet. Many people do and many artists do. But it is always a pleasure to experience contemporary artists outside our country contextualizing our evolving relationship with the net.

They bring a selection of work spanning almost 20 years, Academy of Saturn.

The lecture space is small, arrive early. After the talk, the artists open the show in the Cooley Gallery.
