April 13, 20, 26, 27 Butoh

Butoh is a contemporary dance form from Japan. It has a concentration of people interested here.

Guest artists visit, including from Japan.

This is that.

Koichi & Hiroko Tamano perform with Kudo Taketeru. The Tamanos were very early performers with the founder. They were the very first to perform butoh in the Americas.

Taketeru Kudo performs solo. He studied with the Tamanos and Waguri, then performed with the seminal French and Japanese Sanki Juku between 1995 and 1998. His current troupe in Japan is Gien-kan.

Shadowtender is a project based in Portland with Brooklyn collaborators. They perform Lieber II tonight, based on the intersection of the id and the queer body.
