May 17 Eyeing Dance

Modern dance, movement, performance, experimental, art goes in cycles in Portland. Just when you think it is dead, some cells in the petri dish start multiplying. One such creative life form is the Pure Surface monthly. It ia a collaboration between a dancer, a writer, and a videomaker. Pure Surface #16 today is Ajna Lichau, film; Endi Bogue Hartigan, text; Dawn Stoppiello, dance. Pure Surface www.puresurface.info at Valentines valentinespdx.com 232 SW Ankeny. Doors 6:00PM, performance 7 sharp Free

Occasionally we dip into the modern dance worlds here. Dance can be arranged in lineages: studied with who studied with. I have always heard the name Yvonne Rainer spoken with reverence by modern dance friends. If you want to know what that is all about, you can see the film Feelings are Facts: The Life of Yvonne Rainer. She is active today at age 80. Part of the Portland Queer Documentary Film Festival, with the director and producer presenting. Advance tickets at http://www.queerdocfest.org/film/feelings-facts-life-yvonne-rainer/.
