February 3 - March 4 African Film Festival

The Cascade Festival of African Films is a favorite event. Each year on Thursday, Friday and Saturday for a month they show films from all over Africa.

This year they have films from Algeria, Burkina Faso, Chad, Egypt, Ethiopia, Ghana, Israel, Kenya, Mali, Morocco, Niger Nigeria, South Africa, Tunisia and Uganda.

Every single one of the films is free!

Most are shown on the PCC Cascade Campus on N Killingsworth. The opening night, Friday February 3, is at the Hollywood Theater, also free.

That opening night film is by Chris Kirkley, DJ Sahel Sounds. It is a retelling of the film Purple Rain, staring musician Mdou Moctar from Niger, and filmed in Niger. Moctar performs his music at 11:15PM after the film's second showing. Free

February 25 is a children's program of films and storytelling by Baba Wagué Diakité of Mali. There is a week of films by women and a program of staged readings of African plays.

The PCC Library maintains a copy of all the films shown over 27 years for in-library viewing.
