Oregon is not Portland. One way to look it is a state of four quarters. The upper left hand corner is the Willamette Valley to Eugene and the Northern Coast, Florence to Astoria. The upper right is La Pine to Burns, to Lagrande and Enterprise, Pendleton and The Dalles. The lower left is Ashland, Medford, Roseburg, K-Falls, Crater Lake and the Southern Coast. The empty quarter is what's left, including the Steens, Alvford, Christmas Valley and antelope and bird refuges. Pam Minty & Alain LeTourneau traveled the area, met some of the scattered residents, and made a film about the place, The Empty Quarter. For tonight's showing, the filmmakers will be in attendance.
